Chinese-Canadian born, SENAIDA (pronounced Shuh-nay-duh), is a sound architect, creative entrepreneur and futurist. Through her work as a conscious artist and thinker, she explores the intersection between art, emerging technologies and spirituality. She released her debut EP, “First Love” in July 2020, which sparked her journey as a songwriter and producer. Her music draws inspiration from artists such as Suzanne Ciani, Bjork, SKYGGE, BANKS and Anthony Baldino. SENAIDA is also the founder and CEO of MiSynth, a revolutionary software synth plugin that recreates the sounds you imagine. Her sophomore EP, "last night was the last night of my past life” was released in August 2021. She is the recipient of the 2022 NAMM Show President's Innovation Award.
Classically-trained in piano, she has performed at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York City as well as Roy Thomson Hall, Ottawa Bluesfest, Toronto Centre for the Performing Arts, Nathan Phillips Square, the Burdock, nookFest and was one of the fifteen finalists for Markham Star Search. She is a two-time national finalist of the Canadian Music Competition and has received 2nd place at the International Elite Music Competition. She was a finalist in She’s The One Canada in 2020. In 2019, after realizing that there aren’t enough performance opportunities for young musicians, she founded the Youth Showcase Concert Series in Downtown Markham, an annual summer music festival that promotes local artists and bands under the age of 25.
During her high school years, Senaida attended Havergal College in Toronto, Canada where she received the Ancerl Prize for Leadership in Music and was the co-head of the senior choir. She also studied classical piano at the Royal Conservatory’s prestigious Phil and Eli Taylor Performance Academy for Young Artists and jazz piano at Humber College Community Music School. She has studied with numerous teachers including Joe Johnson, Michael Berkovsky, Li Wang, Brian Rudolf, Lorne Lofsky and Spiro Kizas. She has participated in local competitions and music festivals, where she earned numerous first and second prizes. In 2018, she received her ARCT Performance Certificate from the Royal Conservatory of Music. She was the principal pianist for the Toronto Youth Wind Orchestra from 2018-2020.
She currently attends New York University’s Clive Davis Institute for Recorded Music at the Tisch School for the Arts, where she is a recipient of the Tisch Scholarship. She is also a 2020 Horatio Alger Canadian Scholar, Toronto Hakka Conference 2020 Luo Shui Hap Scholar, recipient of the Jean Lumb Foundation Chung-Kotcheff Arts Award, NSHSS Performing Arts: Music Scholarship, and Notes for the Future Scholarship. In 2021, she was named the 1,000 Dreams Fund ElevatHer Gala Dream of the Year.
Outside of her creative work, Senaida is a strong advocate for mental health awareness, gender equality and representation in the music industry. She is the founder of the NYU Gender Equality in Music Club, and a radio DJ for "Classy & Sassy" on WNYU 89.1 FM. She has appeared on Salt+Light TV as a guest performer and actress, given talks and workshops in Canada and the US, and has been interviewed by numerous podcasts and channels.
In addition to making music, she loves looking at art, exploring new cities, and Geocaching. Her channel currently has over 500,000 views. She also has a music review blog, Tea n’ Tunes, where she writes music and bubble tea reviews.
